December ’25 Update

Welcome to the beginning of another season with the Southwest Ski and Snowboard Club!

In this update, I’ll bullet point important news that I have for some of our Ski Weeks.
  • Palisades/Tahoe January 11-16, 2026  Registration is still open for our first Airline Ski Week of the season. There’s currently 28 of us registered with NAASF joining nearly 200 other early registrations. If you’re considering joining us, I encourage you to register now before the next cost increase occurring on January 4, 2026. I’ll remind you of my challenge to all of you to sign up to compete in at least one race while you’re enjoying our Ski Weeks to help our Club bring home some of those sweet trophies the other clubs keep winning at the end of the season.   We have a Team Dinner venue picked out. It’s been a bit of a struggle finding a place. Some locations were already booked up, others wanted money just to host us. There was no way that I was going to spend $2800.00 on a Taco Bar for 30 people. So, we have a good alternative. Le Chamois & The Loft Bar is familiar stomping ground for us. In fact, in my Google search for this place, I see our Ski Club sticker on a sign inside the bar! It’s going to be cozy for 30 of us. And, they close at 7pm, so our Team Dinner is more like a prolonged apres ski starting at 6pm. Ski Club will preorder a bunch of pizza and, if you care to eat, we’ll ask for a small contribution. The Wednesday night theme party is “Neon”. Get your crazy costume ideas finalized before Temu sells out! Only a few items remaining!
  • Winter Park February 8-13, 2026  Registration is open for this ski week. More importantly, the early-bird registration discount goes away on December 15th!! Register now on the NAASF website to enjoy the discount! The Wednesday night theme party is “Tiki Party”. I haven’t been to WP in a very long time. If I can get some recommendations for a Team Dinner venue, I’ll greatly appreciate it.
  • No-Brainer, Brighton, Utah February 22-25, 2026 It’s our very own mini ski week. No bibs, no registration. Just skiing, riding and having fun. A slight difference this year is that I have booked a 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath condo at the base of Brighton Ski Resort. The first 4 that care to respond can share the condo with Kelli, Danny, Ron and myself. If there is more interest, perhaps we can explore another nearby condo. Plus, the Brighton Lodge is always there with a cozy fire! We had a fun group last year, even with below zero temps, we were out all night with parking lot karaoke, skiing and riding under the lights, warm spiked cider and grilled cheeses! We’ll plan more of that for this season.
  • Kitzbuhel, Austria and the 65th World Airlines Ski Championship March 22-27,  2026 The Ledenberg Hotel in Kitzbuhel wasn’t on our list when we were choosing our allotment options. I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t on any list. But, with the expected size of our group, (50+) it is what the Kitzbuhel Organizing Committee has chosen for us. It’s not exactly “centrally located, but as I have stated before, you can walk the length of Kitzbuhel in about 30 minutes. My online search shows a 20 minute walk from the hotel to the Hahnenkahmmbahn. Not to worry though, the hotel offers regular shuttle service to the town center and ski area. Most importantly, this hotel is very nice! You’ll see when you search for yourself. I’ll be confirming this hotel for our club right away. The rest of us need to register to attend. Each person must register individually. You can do that at this link.  After entering your personal information you then select your desired room type, For the question, “How are you booking your accommodation?”, you select the first option stating “My Team captain already blocked allotment”. The billing of the registration fee, accommodation and optional additional services will then be carried out per participant. There’s still a lot of planning and a little bit of time to get this all organized. My first impressions of the Kitzbuhel OC are very favorable compared to some of the issues and drama that we have seen from our previous international adventures. Let’s hope that these first impressions hold up.
  • Telluride, CO March 31-Apr 04, 2026 Registration will open on January 1, 2026. We don’t know the fee amount yet…we don’t even know how we’re going to handle a NAASF ski week just days after the WASC…We’ll figure that out later…much later.
  • Wrapping up… This has turned into a long email. I’ll summarize…register for everything…buy Neon and Tiki on Temu, reserve your spot in the Brighton condo, Have safe and happy holiday’s with friends and family. Send me any questions. Thanks for reading!
